The Uplands is committed to Delaware County, the town of Walton and the larger community in which it is located. Through offering free enriching programs and opportunities, we aim to enhance a sense of unity and improve resources for our community members.

Day Retreats

The Uplands provides free day retreats for local organizations that are dedicated to caring for others or advancing a positive change in our community. In addition to strategic planning or group work, day retreats can include a variety of activities such as team building games, yoga or mindful movement, nature-based experiences, group creative art sessions, and delicious garden-to-table food. Local organizations we’ve supported include:

  • The ARC of Delaware County
  • Rehab Support Services
  • Helios Care
  • Delaware Opportunities
  • United Health Services – Delaware Valley Hospital
  • Delaware County Public Health
  • Bassett School-Based Mental Health

Community Events

We offer free community programs aimed to enhance and enrich the lives of Walton locals and beyond. Some examples of programs include:

  • Guided nature hikes that increase awareness of the diversity, interdependence, cycles and ecology of the Uplands environment
  • Creative arts events open to the community to paint, draw and photograph
  • Yoga classes
  • Gardening workshops
  • Cooking classes

Reseach & Learning Opportunities

The Uplands is developing relationships with local educational institutions to offer a variety of land-based collaborative learning opportunities.

At the college and graduate school level, the Uplands can serve as an experiential, field science learning laboratory for:

  • Botany, Ornithology, Herpetology, etc
  • Community ecology
  • Organic farming
  • Soil restoration and regeneration
    techniques

At the elementary through high school level, we are eager to work with local educators to offer:

  • Field trips
  • Day programs for guided naturalist and ecology walks
  • Workshops in gathering and cooking wild edible plants
  • “Art from Nature” programs
  • Farm-based education workshops

We also host a small homeschool co-op, “Little Explorers” for local families outside of the public school system.
