Community Event Spotlight: Walton Central School District

Community Event Spotlight: Walton Central School District

Walton Central School District hosted two day-long programs at The Uplands focused on building community among students along with enhancing and developing communication, conflict resolution, stress management, and problem solving skills. The aim of this program was to enhance students’ connections to school, their peers, and community as well as improving classroom behavior and academic achievement.

The Uplands hosted their final gathering with the theme of “gratitude.” The students started off the day with outdoor yoga and mindfulness, followed by a journaling & discussion session on gratitude. After lunch, The Uplands’ Environmental Director led the students on a nature walk (the “Wellness Walk”) which allowed students to relate with the natural world through themes such as resilience, transformation, and community support. The day ended with a creative arts class, led by Walton’s art teacher, Lara Fassler.

Thank you, WCSD for your commitment to enriching the lives of children through social and emotional learning opportunities! And thank you, Lara Fassler, for cultivating the creative spirit of Walton’s youth.
