Friends of Recovery of Delaware and Otsego Counties (FORDO) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting addiction recovery through every available means, including advocacy, education and peer support. FORDO’s “ Recovery For Women, By Women” is a 14 week-long program which starts off with a seminar focused on sharing experiences, strength and hope. After the opening seminar, the group meets once a week for 12 weeks. Some of the topics they are focus on are healthy relationships and boundaries, women’s health, family planning, stress management, financial wellness, nutrition, domestic violence, and educational & career planning.
This year’s “Recovery for Women, By Women” program culminated in a retreat at The Uplands Center. The participants engaged in a variety of wellness-promoting and self-reflective activities such as a tea & mindfulness session, an expressive arts workshop, a low-impact exercise class, a women’s circle, a self-regulation session, daily reflections, and an affirmation circle. Women in recovery rarely get the opportunity for self-reflection and self-care, and we at The Uplands were honored to play a small role in this group’s transformational journey. Thank you, FORDO, for all you do for those in recovery.
