Retreat Spotlight: She Wins

Retreat Spotlight: She Wins

The Uplands held a changemaker retreat this July for the powerful young women from She Wins who are already making major waves in the world. Changemakers are those who dedicate their energy to addressing societal problems and unjust systems. Through their work, changemakers are building a better, more compassionate, and just world.  And believe us, the youth from She Wins are already changing the world as we know it.

They have testified on Capitol Hill and within the halls of local government on issues related to gun violence, inadequate mental health support amongst underserved youth, gender equity, criminal justice reform, and systemic racism. They are on the front lines marching for change as they support BLM, LGBTQ rights, immigrants, and women. Just this past year, they went out into their communities amidst a global pandemic and completed over 300 hours of community service.

The girls from She Wins came to the Uplands for a leadership building intensive. They enjoyed several workshops that focused on building skills related to public speaking, leading with compassion, and mobilizing others. They also participated in a mental health curriculum to help these girls care for themselves as they go out into the world, navigate challenges, and advocate for change.

And of course, they also had fun! They enjoyed nature walks, game playing, art activities, swims in the pool, garden walks, relaxing yoga, and more. They even ate fresh out of the garden and befriended a chicken!

Thank you She Wins for all the beautiful, impactful work you do in the world. Nurturing the young leaders today builds a brighter, more just tomorrow.
