Delaware County Public Health (DCPH) serves citizens in Delaware County NY with a variety of programs and services related to substance use prevention, child & family services, disease control, disaster and emergency preparedness, and more. Their aim is to promote “healthy people living in healthy & thriving communities” in one of the largest counties in New York state.
Twenty clerical staff, program coordinators, and managers visited Uplands in early May for a day of team building and restoration. This was particularly needed with new staff joining the DCPH team and experiencing some changing dynamics within their workplace. After a hearty breakfast, the group enjoyed two challenging and laughter-inducing team building activities focused on communication, trust, and letting loose together. A scavenger hunt offered an opportunity to explore Uplands’ charming interiors and inspiring grounds.
After some free time enjoying the pool and free-range art activities, the group relaxed over a delicious lunch featuring curried parsnip soup, Uplands garden carrots roasted with a spinach dressing, and smashed potatoes with a wild-foraged tartare sauce. With tanks full, the guests took a hike on the Brook Trail, stopping to enjoy a particularly robust waterfall after heavy spring rains. The retreat wrapped up with more free time, allowing the staff to absorb and integrate their day.
