Community Event Spotlight: Moms in Recovery

Jen Cutting, an employee of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) and founder of Supplies for Life, connected The Uplands Center with Delaware County mothers in recovery. We were honored to host these women who are making waves in our local community.

Recovery is a difficult journey under any circumstance, but being a parent while overcoming Substance Use Disorder offers its own unique challenges. The 8 mothers that came to The Uplands for a day retreat were seeking connection to others, self-care tools, and opportunities for reflection. Throughout the day, The Uplands offered a gentle yoga class, a sharing circle, a fresh garden-to-table lunch, and use of amenities such as the pool, sauna, and walking trails. The women noted how important it was to spend some time away from their families to connect with others on the same path, and how the act of simply doing something for themselves was profoundly healing.
Thank you, Jen, and all those recovery warriors out there working to support others along their journey, reform unjust systems, and reduce the stigma of addiction.
