Working toward the vision of “Healthy People Living in Healthy and Thriving Communities,” Delaware County Public Health serves citizens of Delaware County, NY by providing a wide range of programs and services such as maternal and child health, early intervention, disease control, suicide and substance use prevention, annual community health assessments, and more. As with many public health agencies, this group experienced much hardship in the pandemic, confronted with new responsibilities and managing the crisis locally. The recovery period was extensive, and an opportunity for the staff to retreat and relax was a long time coming.

The Uplands was pleased to host sixteen staff members from Delaware County Public Health this spring for a day of team bonding and relaxation. The group was a combination of clerical staff, management, and program coordinators. Their day started with a grounding yoga session, a first for some of the visitors. Next was a blustery yet beautiful nature walk, culminating in a view over the western hills. After a free time session with pool and sauna relaxation, a delicious lunch awaited the group which included a wild-foraged dandelion salad, pasta with spring greens, local mushrooms, and a delightful carrot cake. In the afternoon, the group had a collaging session in the art studio reflecting on what wellness means to them.

We thank Delaware County Public Health for all they do to keep our community safe and thriving, and we envision them carrying the ease and renewal they received at Uplands into their work in the future.
