At The Uplands Center, we appreciate the powerful impact that environmental education and nature immersion can offer. Spending time in nature can have a healing and calming effect on our bodies and mind. Nature exposure has been shown to improve our immunity, lower our stress levels, improve cognition, and much more. We believe that the impact of time spent in nature goes beyond our own personal gains, though. As we become more connected to our environment and develop a richer understanding of it, we may find that our planet receives better care. The Uplands aims to elevate environmental consciousness – for the betterment of ourselves and the ecosystem with which we are so intricately linked.
In keeping with this vision, The Uplands has introduced Renee Hardenkamp to our team as an on site Director and Naturalist. Her husband, Sean, is our Director of Agricultural Operations. Together they are thrilled to be building our environmental programs and more.

Renee is delighted to be learning about the abundant wildlife in upstate New York, and is always pleased to share her discoveries with visitors. She has found great enjoyment in slowing down and tuning into the symphony of sensory offerings that the woodlands offer. Readers – keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming blog series called “Nature Notes”, in which Renee will be sharing some of her observations of the natural wonders surrounding The Uplands. More to come!
