Retreat Spotlight: Weill Cornell Emergency Medicine

The Uplands was pleased to welcome back the emergency medicine residency program of the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences last month. After the new batch of twelve residents and four attending physicians arrived and settled in, they gathered around a fire in the plush living room and held a collective reflection about the residency over the past academic year. Spring rains provided a rainbow backdrop for their meal of chicken tetrazzini, dandelion salad, and chocolate mousse. The normally-colorful sunset was obscured by gray skies, easing some guests into the pool and sauna. Once night fell, the sky cleared, and they were able to enjoy a lively bonfire under the stars.

After an optional yoga flow class and hearty breakfast, the group spent the morning in the art studio doing team building exercises and a creative project, followed by a guided nature walk though wild ramp-filled woods. After closing with a brief integration session in the yoga studio and a last circle together, they enjoyed a final lunch before returning to the familiarity of the city and teaching hospitals.
