Community Spotlight: Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society

Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society (DOAS), a chapter of the National Audubon Society, has a mission to protect our natural environment and connect people with nature to benefit birds and other wildlife through conservation, education, research and advocacy. The DOAS Board convened at The Uplands for a full day strategic planning retreat.

Given that no Audubon gathering would be complete without bird watching, the day began with a leisurely walk out to the vista shed with binoculars and data sheets in hand. The songs of Bobolinks, Song & Savannah Sparrows, Indigo Buntings, and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks surrounded the group as they meandered under the early morning sun. After returning to the center for a quick breakfast, an Uplands facilitator led the group in assessing their four main areas of work. A hearty lunch refilled their tanks, fueling them for an afternoon of visioning and identifying key decisions to make as a board.

Thank you, DOAS, for all you do to protect the environment and cultivate appreciation for birds!
